The Week Ahead: September 17

***Announcement Regarding Monthly Meeting: Based on your feedback in the recent survey, the steering team would like to restart our periodic meetings, however, not hold them monthly. We’re currently thinking about having them about once per quarter. The first one on this new schedule would be in mid-November shortly after the election. Hopefully, we’ll have a lot to celebrate. If you have questions or are interested in helping plan the November meeting, please PM one of the steering team: @Pamela Benjamin, @Farida Islam, @Gary Stark, @Kevin Young, or @Joel Ombry.***

Federal

50 more days until the mid-term election. It may seem like a ways off but it will be here soon. The deadline for voter registration is October 9th just four weeks away. I know it seems like there are a lot of requests for your time and it can seem overwhelming. Pace yourself, take breaks, find activities that give you energy; step by step, keep working for our democracy.

Trump has been relatively quiet since his former campaign manager Paul Manafort flipped this past Friday and is now cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. This is very bad news for him and, as always, be prepared for crazy tweets, the potential firing of Mueller, and other efforts to stop the investigation.

Remember: all of the immigrant families separated are still not reunited yet.

State and Local

Bill Schuette has become more active with TV advertising and social media in recent weeks. He is polling behind Gretchen Whitmer right now but we can’t afford to be complacent. Please consider volunteering to support the entire Democratic ticket by joining the One Michigan campaign. Contact field organizers Riley or Jason. The office is at 2935 Buchanan Avenue SW and they’re open Monday – Saturday. More information is at https://michigandems.com/onecampaign/
